Today we are out in Buckshaw village near Chorley. This roof is being returned to its original red colour. We will also be cleaning the stone lintels and treating some algae to the walls. Buckshae is One of the largest urban development sites in the North of England the 400 acre brownfield site was formerly a Ministry of Defence factory. It is a huge site of about 250 acres with a mixture of flats, apartments, starter homes up to large detached. Many of the rendered homes now have some algae infections that could be treated with a professional strength biocide. A comment on our social media post stated "people must have more money than sense if they are changing the colour of their roof"
We do not do this. We clean away years of moss and biological growth that has discoloured your roof to the point that people cannot remember what the tiles looked like originally. This beautiful red colour would have been the way it was when the property was built.
SO
Is cleaning your roof necessary? Moss and biological growth can cause damage as the moss holds water and in the winter this can freeze and crack the tiles. It has also been known to eat away at the tiles causing lasting damage. This property looked aesthetically better. And do you know-that can be a good enough reason to complete the clean. We are not harming the tile in any way, we are giving them a thorough yet gentle clean that restores them to their original condition.
Therefore the choice is yours. I know what I would do if I saw the neighbours property looking like this!
This property is a beautiful old gatehouse and the roof should be a bright green slate. But years of algae and biological growth have dulled It’s beauty.
This is one of our projects for the next few weeks and we look forward to restoring it by means of a gentle softwash method. You should definitely clean your roof if you have such a beauty hiding under all that dirt!
